Mental Health Moments – August

As I reflect on summer whilst writing my monthly blog, I can truly say that August was a busy month filled with a lot of change!

One of the reasons I love August is for the amazing weather and of course, my birthday! Every year I am so grateful to be here for another year and being one step closer to accomplishing my goals. It’s amazing to reflect on where I’ve come over the years and to review exactly what I’ve achieved since my last goals. This August, I was able to reflect on the amount of NHS experience that I’ve gained. I cannot tell you how busy this past year has been, but I can assure you that I’ve learnt so much about mental health and more on where I would like to work in our health care service.

Since I’ve turned 22, I’ve set myself some new goals to achieve by next August and I’m hoping that I can achieve them. Believe me when I say there are some goals on my current list that have been here for a while. I know it’s daunting to set goals, however I never pressure myself to achieving them. My secret to getting the best out of myself is to know that when the time is right and when I’ve put in the hard work, I will achieve them. If we put unreasonable pressure on ourselves we will not be able to achieve anything we’re after due to the stress and strain we’re putting on ourselves (trust me I know this only too well!) That’s why I love having a diary with all my goals and estimated dates to achieve them. I know it’s not the end of the world if I haven’t achieved my goal if I have been hard at work elsewhere.

If you ever feel stressed, please remember you’re not alone feeling the pressure! My personal stress relievers are:

  • Mindfulness;
  • Calm music;
  • Early night;
  • Writing a blog / journal;
  • Retail therapy (though the damage to my bank account then stresses me…)

Thank you for reading my blogs over these last five months. I hope you continue to enjoy them.

  1. I’m an August baby too, though a bit older than you. I definitely think blogging helps destress me when I’m really into a post I’m writing, good luck with your goals
